Month: February 2019

On Saturday 1st of April 2019, Mitch and I will be arriving in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Through the red doors, this is where we will be staying at Annette’s B+B. Our Airbnb is about 200 meters from The Vondelpark, a public urban park of 47 hectares in Amsterdam. A friend recommended we ride a bike through Vondelpark and eat a piece of apple pie at the cafe in the middle, which we will most certainly aim to do!!!!

Tulip Season

We may miss the best of the tulip season due to us arriving early rather than mid April, but will investigate the 30 km journey out of Amsterdam to the Keukenhof Botanical Gardens in Lisse to try our luck. Keukenhof’s flowering report say’s tulips, crocuses and daffodils are starting to flower, see the website for details https://keukenhof.nl/en/flowering-report

Tulip fields in Holland, Netherlands

The above image of Tulip laden fields in Holland reminded me of the painting below – Composition A. by Dutch artist Piet Mondrian.

Art and Museums

We purchased our tickets online for 9 am on the 3rd of April to visit the Van Gogh Museum. We will also be visiting the Stedelijk Museum for modern, contemporary art where I’m specifically looking forward to viewing the Pinball Wizard Exhibition; THE WORK AND LIFE OF JACQUELINE DE JONG.

Europe 2019: Amsterdam to Rome draft travel Itinerary

I am a painter soon to embark on a journey from Amsterdam to Rome and am interested in viewing great works by the likes of Matisse and Picasso, as well as discovering obscure artists whose works I find stimulating. Before departing, I have one month to research these artists and galleries and have begun formulating an appropriate itinerary.
